The worst way to settle a tie in sports: devise some ridiculous theatrical spectacle which has only a small bit to do with the actual game. (For example: a soccer shoot out.)
The best way: create the purest and clearest form of competition in the sport. (For example: two women who tied in the 100m, racing again, alone, on the track.)Nick Thompson asks, “Will track show soccer how to break a tie?” http://nyr.kr/MjRYwV
Naturally, Track is both superior and fundamental to all other athletics.
i’ll bet my mummy was all over this shit. she loves watching
What she said. Shoot-outs are excruciating when your team is involved, but they’re a brilliant part of the sport.
Never understood...whole penalty kicks thing...soccer. But...
Soccer goes into a penalty shootout only after regulation time ties, stoppage time ties, and a half hour of second over...
Excuse me. a shoot out has a hell of a lot to do with a game. don’t even get me started. where does theatrics come in?...
